Description

First deviation of the year but started it back in December.

I was going to be all Miss fancy pants and call this "Cráwe Nihtweard". Literally interpreted it means Crow Guardian at night in Old English (think Chaucer). The interpretation isn't quite as poetic, that's for sure.

In the end, even though I still have a soft spot for it, I didn't think it looked appealing. It's also harder to say and so I went with the current one. It means simply Crow in Middle English.

Constructive criticism is welcome. I'm going to give this a couple of days and then re-evaluate.

Used: Photoshop Elements and Corel Painter

You have started 2010 off to a great artistic start!

The sense of movement in this picture is wonderful~ it seems to me that she is gliding along with the crows even though she is trapped on the ground.

Your artwork is progressing very well. I am seeing more and more life in the faces of your characters. I am very pleased with this because life in a face means life in a whole piece of artwork. Your crows look like they are about to fly off the page.

The whole image is very realistic, I believe in the softness of the material of her skirts, the smoothness of her skin, and the feel of her curves. I like that aspect of your art as well. Your woman have a realistic figure, instead of the bone thin, shadows of woman that plague artwork today.

The fine details of your artwork always surprise me. After her face, I am immediately drawn to the chain mail on her chest and the strange contraption of vials and bags on her hip. They catch the dim light and sparkle, without being garish, or looking out of place. You can SEE the individual links in the chain mail, its really quite beautiful.

The glossiness of the feathers of the crows are just right, and your birds actually LOOK like birds. A skill I have never been able to acquire.

Lastly, I must praise you for your delicately designed watermark, I could not see it at all before I finally focused on it, and appreciate it for what it is. It fits in well with your style of art, and into the picture itself. It does not block your view of the artwork, is simple, and clean.

I hope to see even more wonderful pieces of work from you this year, and I know I will.
